SUMMARY:Tranquil Abiding Retreat
DESCRIPTION:What happens when we train in the same meditation object every day\, even for a short time? \nJoin Gen Lhadron for an introduction to Tranquil Abiding\, in which she will explain some specific techniques to train in concentration. In this way we can assess our level of concentration and progress along the stages of Tranquil Abiding. After the introductory class\, participants will choose a meditation object and commit to practicing with it daily for two weeks\, gradually deepening their familiarity and focus. \nThe challenge begins with a Wednesday evening introduction and concludes with a one-day retreat on June 27. Everyone is welcome to attend the introduction and\, afterward\, decide whether they would like to take part in the full challenge. \n\n\n\n  \nSchedule \nWednesday\, June 10 \n\n\nIntroduction: 6:30-8pm\n\n\nSaturday\, June 27\n\n\nSession 1: 9:30 – 10:30am\nSession 2: 11:15am – 12:15pm\nLunch: 12:15 – 1:15pm\nSession 3: 1:15 – 2:15pm\nSession 4: 3:00 – 4:00pm\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Overcoming Stress Through Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Overcoming stress means more than coping. It means discovering the root causes of feeling overwhelmed and making an inner shift to wiser more confident attitudes. Meditation is the practice of this inner shift to a more peaceful and constructive way of dealing with everyday life. Through training in meditation we develop the confidence that even if things don’t go well out there\, I will be ok inside. We will find in our own experience that in any situation the most important thing to control is our mind. Ultimately\, it is our mind that determines whether we are happy or miserable.\n \nNo previous meditation experience is needed. Everyone is welcome! \n\nSchedule\n\nSession 1: 10:00 – 11:15am\nSession 2: 11:45 – 1:00pm\nlunch: 1:00 – 2:00pm

SUMMARY:Clarity of Mind
DESCRIPTION:Step away from the noise of everyday life and give yourself the rare gift of silence. \nFor one peaceful morning\, put away your phone\, set down your problems and responsibilities\, and allow your mind to become quiet. Through guided meditations\, inspiring Buddhist teachings\, and periods of intentional silence\, you’ll be gently guided toward the deeper levels of the mind where a natural sense of peace and spaciousness can be found. \nDuring the retreat\, we’ll explore Buddha’s teachings on the clarity of the mind using simple\, beautiful meditations that anyone can practice. You’ll learn to relate to thoughts and distractions like clouds passing through a vast\, open sky\, allowing you to experience the peaceful clarity that remains beneath the mental busyness. \nNo meditation experience is necessary. This retreat is especially welcoming for beginners\, including anyone who has tried meditation before and thought\, “I’m just not good at this.” Each session includes inspiring teachings followed by approximately 25 minutes of guided meditation\, so you’ll never be left wondering what you’re supposed to be doing. Experienced meditators will also appreciate the opportunity to slow down and take their practice deeper. \nOne of the most special aspects of the retreat is maintaining silence between sessions. Instead of immediately returning to conversation\, phones\, and distractions\, you’ll have time to walk through our beautiful World Peace Garden\, sit beside the Buddha fountain\, or spend quiet time beneath the Bodhi tree. Maintaining silence allows the peaceful experience of meditation to continue and deepen throughout the morning. \nWe’ll conclude with a silent lunch together. Sharing a meal without conversation can be surprisingly beautiful. Silence doesn’t have to feel lonely. Many people discover a quiet sense of connection\, loving kindness\, and togetherness simply by being in the presence of others. \nOur lives contain so much noise. This retreat is an opportunity to experience what becomes possible when\, for a few hours\, everything grows quiet. \nSchedule \nSession 1: 9:00–10:00amSession 2: 10:30–11:30amSession 3: 12:00–1:00pmSilent Lunch: 1:00–2:00pm \nSilence will be maintained from 9:00am–1:30pm. \nSuitable for everyone\, from complete beginners to experienced meditators.

SUMMARY:Letting Go of the Past
DESCRIPTION:So much of what we dwell on has already passed. \nOld memories\, familiar worries\, and outdated beliefs can linger in our minds\, quietly shaping how we see ourselves\, others\, and what we believe is possible. Yet nothing remains the same for even a moment\, and our mind itself is constantly renewing. \nIn this retreat\, we will explore a special teaching from Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche that combines meditation on the clarity of the mind with meditation on impermanence. Instead of following distractions\, we can recognize that they are already in the past and gently return our attention to the clarity and freshness of the present moment. \nImpermanence also gives us a powerful new perspective on our relationships. When we remember that the person who upset us is changing from moment to moment—and that we ourselves are also changing from moment to moment—anger and attachment begin to lose their grip. We can learn to relate to ourselves and others with greater freedom\, patience\, and kindness. \nEveryone welcome. No previous meditation experience necessary. \nStay overnight! On-site accommodations available.\n\n\n  \n  \n\n\nSchedule\n\n\n\n\n\nFriday \n\nIntro : 7:00-8:30pm\n\n\nSaturday \n\n\nSession 1: 9:00-10:15am\nSession 2: 11:00-12:15pm\nLunch: 12:30-1:30pm\nSession 3: 2:30-4:00pm (with Q&A)\nSession 4: 7:00-8:00pm (chanted prayers with guided meditation)\n\n\n\nSunday \n\nSession 5: 9:00-10:00am\nSession 5: 11:00-12:30pm\nLunch (complimentary): 12:30-2:00pm\nSession 7: 2:00-3:00pm (chanted prayers with Buddhist dedication ceremony)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPricing\n\nEntire Weekend: $75\nSaturday only: $45\nFriday Intro: $15\nAccommodations: $110-190\nSee registration for member and benefactor pricing

SUMMARY:Cemetery Meditation
DESCRIPTION:This Halloween join us for a unique morning of meditation and contemplation at a local cemetery. \nGuided by Buddhist nun\, Gen Lhadron\, we will explore the meaning of death and impermanence\, not as something to fear\, but as a powerful reminder to make the most of our precious human life. Together\, we will receive contemplations to reflect on\, then wander quietly to find a gravestone that speaks to us. Sitting amongst the graves\, we will use the setting around us as a support for meditation\, contemplating questions such as: What does our death mean? What happens after we die? What were the concerns that fill days and what is really important? How can contemplating death be a powerful tool for our well being? \nNo previous meditation experience is necessary. Come with an open mind and a willingness to contemplate life’s most meaningful questions.

SUMMARY:Mending Relationships
DESCRIPTION:Weekend Retreat with Gen Lhadron \nThe holidays have a way of bringing relationships into focus. Family gatherings\, old dynamics\, difficult memories and unresolved hurts can all resurface. But what if your peace of mind no longer depended on someone else apologizing\, changing or behaving differently? \nIn this weekend meditation retreat\, we’ll explore practical Buddhist methods for healing relationships from within. Through meditation and teachings on acceptance\, love and compassion\, we can learn to let go of painful resentment and find peace with the people in our lives\, even when the other person has not changed. \nAcceptance doesn’t mean condoning harmful behavior or forgetting the past. It means letting go of the need for someone else to change before we can be at peace. We can maintain healthy boundaries\, even love someone from a distance when needed\, while freeing our own heart from resentment. \nHealing can happen from our side alone\, even with someone we no longer see or who has passed away. And often\, when we change our own mind\, the relationship begins to change too. As judgment and resentment fall away\, we create space for something new. \nThis holiday season\, take back your peace. Learn how to unhinge your happiness from circumstances beyond your control and discover a source of love\, acceptance and wellbeing that comes from within. \nEveryone welcome. No previous meditation experience necessary. \nStay overnight!
