Buddha’s teachings and meditations on the true nature of reality dissolve away the illusion of our ego – a sense of being a separate individual existing in isolation from everyone and everything else in the world. Grasping at this ego is the cause of feelings of alienation, isolation, and loneliness and we become trapped in our own bubble of anxiety, disconnected from the world around us. By meditating on Buddha’s teachings on wisdom, and discovering our true nature, we can dissolve the illusion of our ego and feel completely connected with everyone and everything around us. Meditating on our true nature dissolves the false barriers between self and other, transcends isolation and loneliness, and gives rise to love and boundless peace from within.
“Our sense that we are an island, an independent, self-sufficient individual, bears no relation to reality. It is closer to the truth to picture ourself as a cell in the vast body of life, distinct yet intimately bound up with all living beings.” – Eight Steps to Happiness, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
