SUMMARY:Wishfulfilling Jewel with food offering
DESCRIPTION:This practice is the heart essence of Kadampa Buddhism. In the first part we visualize our Spiritual Guide as Je Tsongkhapa and make prayers and requests to purify negativity\, accumulate merit\, and receive blessings. This prepares our mind for a 15-minute meditation on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment. After the meditation we make prayers to our Dharma Protector\, Dorje Shugden. Through this we can overcome obstacles to our practice and increase our pure Dharma realizations. \nThis practice includes a tsog offering so you can bring a vegetarian food or beverage\, packaged or prepared\, as an offering if you wish. Fruits\, vegetables\, cookies\, crackers\, dips\, and bottled beverages include some examples of  common tsog offering items.

SUMMARY:Meditations for a Meaningful Life
DESCRIPTION:The Stages of the Path to Enlightenment\, or “Lamrim”\, is a sophisticated\, practical presentation of Buddhist teachings\, which is designed to help us improve and grow in a deliberate and joyful way. Over 1000 years ago the Buddhist sage Atisha consolidated the 84\,000 teachings of Buddha into the Lamrim\, which  are 21 essential meditations\, revolutionizing the practice of Buddha’s teachings. Since then\, Lamrim has flourished throughout the world and it perfectly fits within our modern lifestyle. It is simple\, scientific\, and incredibly potent. \nThe Lamrim takes us step-by-step through carefully crafted meditations so we can purposefully nourish the qualities in our mind that lead to our happiness and reduce our painful thoughts and feelings. \nIn this class\, we will go one-by-one through the Lamrim\, drawing out how we can personally use these meditations and create our own meditation practice. There will be a special emphasis on the art of meditation and how to really make our meditations effective. \nJoin us afterwards for lunch in our World Peace Cafe! Lunch is available for purchase at check in and will be served after the class.

SUMMARY:The Scientific Approach to the Art of Effective Prayer
DESCRIPTION:In these challenging times people are beginning to realize that the changes we long for in the external world depend entirely upon changing the internal world of our own mind. The real answers to sustainable peace and harmony do not lie outside of ourselves\, but rather in the understanding and transformation of our own intentions and views. This depends upon “the scientific approach to effective prayer”. Buddhist psychology describes the function of prayer in such a practical and scientific way. Many people are returning to prayer with a new understanding and experience of its efficacy to produce repeatable positive effects in the mind of anyone\, Buddhist or non-Buddhist\, religious or non-religious. Everyone is Welcome!

SUMMARY:Living Meaningfully\, Dying Joyfully
DESCRIPTION:This is the simplest\, most obvious truth of our existence\, yet very few have really come to terms with this fact. In this series\, we will learn how to make the most of our human life (living meaningfully)\, to prepare for death (dying joyfully)\, and how to help others who are dying. In this way\, instead of something to be feared or denied\, death can become a positive and life-enhancing experience. \nThe series is based on the book Living Meaningfully\, Dying Joyfully\, by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.  \nThe teacher\, Gen Kelsang Gomlam\, worked as a nurse in Intensive Care and Hospice before she met the New Kadampa Tradition. Her previous practical experiences together with the powerful teachings of Buddha create a light-hearted environment to explore the most important knowledge we can develop — what happens when we die. Each class includes a teaching\, guided meditation\, and a Q & A session after class in the World Peace Cafe. \nEveryone Welcome!

SUMMARY:Lakewood Ranch Branch Class
DESCRIPTION:In this new series we will essentially learn how to “level up” our capacity to love others and navigate the paradoxical effect that has on our own experience of happiness. This advice helps everyone\, Buddhist or non-Buddhist\, because it is practical and based on Buddha’s science of the mind and how it functions to produce all of our feelings and daily experiences. This is such a positive way to begin the new year because if we understand where happiness really comes from we can be confident that we will be happier this year than last year. How amazing! \nTeachings will be from the book How To Transform You Life: part 2 by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.
